In more than four years, the Department of Housing has awarded $490.68 million in funding for assistance to 11,903 homebuyers, while there are some 20,854 eligibility determinations and $605 million, according to the transfer portal.

At a time when the housing shortage on the island represents a challenge for thousands of individuals and families interested in owning their own home, the panorama may be more complicated as it appears that certain real estate brokers and sellers are excluding potential buyers when they seek to close the transaction using the available government assistance.
