Aníbal Acevedo Vilá seeks to regain the presidency of the Popular Democratic Party (PDP), a post he left a little over eight years ago. He is doing this in the knowledge that in 1998 he was successful in undermining status consultations, such as the failed Young Bill, and the plebiscite where the fifth column—“none of the above”—prevailed.
