The birth rate in Puerto Rico plummeted to 17,772 in 2023, marking its lowest level since records date back to 1888, and to less than half of the rate recorded just a decade ago, a level that, according to experts, hinders a generational replacement and underscores the need of public policy to reverse the accelerated rate decline.
