At first glance, the animated film “Dog Man,” a Dreamworks Animation and Universal Pictures production opening this week, appears to be the kind of film that tests the boundaries of family entertainment conventions with plenty of dark humor. On paper the central concept of the script, which adapts Dav Pikey’s novels featuring the titular character, is much more aligned with that of a horror comedy with macabre humor.
