Along with seven other Democratic congress members elected from New York districts, Puerto Rican Nydia Velázquez requested that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) handle Puerto Rico’s affairs from its regional office in New York, believing that this could help accelerate the reconstruction process of the Puerto Rican archipelago, among other reasons.
