Universities classify as international students who need to obtain visas to study in U.S. territory. Students who are not residents of Puerto Rico, but are residents of other U.S. jurisdictions, are not classified as international or foreign. (JUAN LUIS MARTINEZ)

To reach more students, the Ana G. Méndez University is working with a university in Ecuador on a nursing program that will allow about 15 students to come to the island next semester to obtain a nursing certification.
