María de Lourdes Santiago, of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP, by its Spanish acronym), seeks to position herself in the general elections as the only gubernatorial candidate who will defy the powers of the Oversight Board with only one goal in mind: laying the foundations to finally end the colonial relationship that has kept Puerto Rico subordinate to the United States for 118 years.
