The Treasury Department notified more than 34,000 people that they had received incorrect stimulus checks under relief measures passed during the 2020 pandemic

Some 34,233 people who may have mistakenly received economic stimulus checks in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, would now have a debt with the Treasury Department. However, this debt will not be subject to surcharges and interest or bank account garnishment.
