Although he never set foot on Puerto Rican soil before his passing this Easter Monday, Pope Francis was well aware of the island’s reality. From his prayers for the victims of Hurricane Maria to his request to the Catholic Extension Society to assist in rebuilding churches and schools, the pontiff demonstrated his solidarity with the archipelago and his desire to visit—a dream he sadly was never able to fulfill.
