prima:Puerto Rico’s government says it is ready to transition from NAP to SNAP, Congress may soon decide

The process could take five years and would represent an increase of about $1.7 billion in nutritional assistance funds for island residents.

In a matter of days, Congress could decide if it is possible to reach an agreement this motnh over the farming bill or if, as it seems inevitable due to the general federal budget, which also ends on September 30, a temporary extension will be needed to harmonize both Senate and House versions. Washington D.C. - As Congress returns from August recess this week, the proposal seeking a transition from the Nutrition Assistance Program (NAP) to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will grab the attention of the island’s authorities, who say they are ready to start the process.
