In just three decades, after gaining independence from Malaysia, Singapore transformed itself from a poor country where corruption was rampant into a regional and world economic power. In an excellent column published in El Nuevo Día, the distinguished economist Gustavo Vélez refers to Singapore as a model of economic development for Puerto Rico.
