prima:Civil Rights Commission at a standstill: only one of its five members has been appointed

The Commission, which addresses complaints regarding alleged human rights violations and has suffered the “disdain” of past administrations, sent several letters to Pedro Pierluisi seeking to resolve the situation, but the governor stated that “it is not easy” to recruit for positions that require the Senate advice and consent.

For the past five months, the Civil Rights Commission (CDC, Spanish) has been operating with only one of the five commissioners it should have. This situation keeps the body´s investigative and oversight functions in a critical state and almost at a standstill, despite approaches made to Governor Pedro Pierluisi to make the appointments, said its Executive Director Ever Padilla Ruiz.
